Test Title 1

it's kind of a funny story ...

finally wade and i redbox-ed the film it's kind of a funny story. it has been on the list for a while but always unavailable. oh redbox.

remember when steve carell played dan, a widower and father of 3 girls, in dan in real life? the role was still comical but it wasn't his usual ridiculous ... more obnoxious than funny ... self. and i LOVED it. that is exactly how i feel about zach galifianakis (yes i had to google the spelling on that one) in it's kind of a funny story. i LOVED him.

and i thought the movie was pretty loveable too. it's the story of a clinically depressed teenager that gets a brand new view of life after checking himself into an adult psychiatric ward. complete w/ creative dream sequences similar to 500 days of summer (a def favorite).

and that little tagline ... "sometimes what's in your head isn't as crazy as you think" - words of wisdom this thursday afternoon.

did you happen to see it?

{someday} piano overhaul

i inherited my grandma's piano a few years ago. i love having a piano in our apartment - though i really should play it more often. i mean - if you only knew the struggle that our relationship wade went through moving that thing into my first apartment - and then again into our new apartment - both second level apts w/ an unbelievable amount of stairs. yikes! i REALLY should play it more often.

lately i've been thinking it needs a bit of an update. there are so many fun piano overhauls online for inspiration:

okay - don't freak out mom and dad. our apartment wouldn't fit a bright orange piano as cool as it might turn out. instead, i'm thinking a weathered/stained look would be perfect. restoration hardware inspired.

Montpellier Armoire St. James Armoire

like this piano bench (which ironically is just a step in the diy spot's piano bench overhaul):

though maybe a darker ebony stain.

so i've added this to the list of furniture for wade and i to drag out to our itty bitty front porch and overhaul:

*filing cabinet
* desk
* piano

in the meantime ... i'm thinking i'll play around with the piano bench. inspiration:

you guessed it. more burlap!

all this to say - i think it's time to invest in an electric sander! anyone have an extra we can borrow for the weekend?

{note to self} st. patty's day cake!

i always find ideas one minute too late. so i've started a new post category - {note to self} - as a reference for NEXT YEAR!

i know st patty's day was a couple of weeks ago now ... but {note to self} i will make attempt this cake next year. maybe not the full on leprechaun trap - i can't see the husband getting into that - but definitely the rainbow deliciousness!

oh not martha - you are genius. and your cake looks scrumptious. not to mention makes awesome rainbow-colored prep pictures:

{food for thought} better body blair

one of my sweet friends suggested that i post more on being a newlywed. so here we go ...

confession: i swore it wouldn't happen to me, but i have put on "love weight" since getting married.
grr. and let's face it - just giving up sugar for lent isn't going to cut it. time to take action!

here are a couple of FREE apps for my smart phone that i have found to be SOOOO helpful:

1 // my fitness pal - FREE diet and exercise journal

here's how it works:

download the app and set up a goal. w/ that goal in mind, the app automatically gives you the amount of calories you can eat a day.

after each meal, use the search to add what you ate. they have 800,000 foods currently included in their database - including restaraunts and specific t grocery store items (aldi, trader joes). and - how much does this rock: they have a barcode scanner! awesome.

Search Diary

add your workout. this gives you additional calories per day depending on your activity. it's really encouraging to workout when you can see the add'l calories you get to eat right there on the homepage!

finally, each day submit your progress ... and it will show you how much closer you are to your goal.there's a TON more involved w/ this app - including an online community. so dig in!

2 // my tracks - FREE performance monitor/GPS tracker

here's how it works:

use my tracks while you run, bike, hike, or do anything else outdoors. it uses the GPS sensor in your phone to record the path you took. it will also gather useful stats like time, speed, distance, and elevation.

{source: jon' journal}

you can review this data and save it for later. (this is sooo helpful when adding info to my fitness pal.) and if you're brave - it has a built in share option!

{i can only find this currently for android. but i'll let you know if i find something similar for iphone.}

3 // last but not least ... pandora radio - FREE personalized radio

here's how it works:

just start with the name of one of your favorite artists, songs or classical composers and pandora will create a "station" that plays their music and more music like it. then you have the option to skip ahead (if the song is too slow for your pace) or dislike/like the artist altogether. by disliking/liking, you help pandora further narrow in on your style!

so what are your most helpful diet apps?

NOTE: all of these are "free" - that is if you have an unlimited date plan!

of course ... all this healthy talk (and healthy eating - not to mention the 11.5 miles i've put in over the last 2 days) has me craving sugar more than ever!!! thank goodness wade ate all the samoas we had in the house. {by "all" i mean only 1 box.}

i can say "thank goodness" now after giving him haides the other day - because i found this AMAZING homemade samoa recipe. i will be making a batch post easter. how's that for evil temptation at the end of this healthy little post!

mon-DIY: anthropologie's acrobatics necklace

wade and i had a lazy day planned for saturday - our first in a long long long time. we woke early to hit up the flea market (where wade had much better luck than me - boo hiss). then on our way home, we redboxed a couple of boston films (the fighter and the town) and sat down to enjoy a rainy day in.

of course, i'm not very good at sitting still. armed with a roll of white duct tape and 52 jumbo paper clips, i decided to recreate this acrobatics necklace from anthropologie:

{haven't got time to make your own? you can purchase it at anthro for just 79.95 on sale right now! (originally 168.00)}

* white duct tape
* 52 jumbo paper clips
* scissors
* acrylic paints
* mod podge or some other sealer --> an after thought but very necessary as the acrylics tend to stick together!

today wade and i celebrate 6 months of being a mr and mrs.

i am a lucky lucky lucky girl.

{wish list} flea market finds

the flea market is open at the tennessee fairgrounds again this weekend! there's all this talk about fairs being a dying breed and making the grounds a park or something - but for now ... the flea market prevails! and i plan to take full advantage of it!

my wish list of flea market finds is getting rather extensive. here are just a couple of things i've been keeping an eye out for:

{source: pinterest}

1 // i've been super envious of ashley from under the sycamore's kitchen chairs for quite some time. then i read back and found out that she bought them for ... drum roll ... $12! dang!!! now i'm on a mission.

2 & 3 // our desk is a major sore spot in our current apt. we don't have a separate office - so it's currently part of our bedroom. grr. with the spring weather, we plan to sand it and stain it! and then i'll need a couple little desk accessories. love this repurposed brush! and of course that ruler lamp would make for a fantastic DIY. genius!

4 // i am the queen of baskets. it's true. but the "new basket" is the vintage crate. looooove that little crate shelf! we can always use more storage!

5 // yes - i really really want a dress form. i've mentioned it ... ur ... 5 or 6 times on here!

6 // and another school inspired must-have ... how cute is that bud vase made from a vintage test tube set. love!

{whatever wednesday} upcycled earrings!

since returning from our honeymoon in morroco, i've been a bit obsessed all things moroccan. (i'm sure you've picked up on this by now!) it's no surprise that i've fallen madly in love w/ these honored artwork hoops from anthropologie:

i just happened to have some wooden hoops in my desk drawer at the office. so last night i sat down to make my own upcycled pair:
